Of kids and noodle making By Mohd Azrol Azmi Thirteen children with special needs from the Sengkurong Playgroup visited Syarikat Perusahaan Hj Sulaiman bin Haji Abu Bakar (KTM) yesterday. Syarikat Perusahaan Hj Sulaiman bin Haji Abu Bakar is the largest noodle factory in Brunei Darussalam. This is the first time that the Sengkurong Playgroup, lead by Hajah Eta Noorleta binti Abdullah, has visited the factory. Hajah Eta Noorlela said that the visit is an annual activity for children in the playgroup. The trips are aimed at giving the children an opportunity to interact with people at all levels of society. The visits also give the children a chance to learn new things about everyday life and the ability to apply this knowledge in the future. According to Hajah Eta Noorlela, the factory manager had a loving and caring side to his personality. He had been more than willing to allow the children to make an educational trip to the factory. This willingness clearly indicated his awareness of children with special needs. The factory, situated in Kampong Kilanas, along Jalan Ban 1, was established 18 years ago. It has since become the largest noodle factory in Brunei Darussalam. The factory is run by Haji Sulaiman bin Haji Abu Bakar and Koh Tek Mong, both of whom are experienced in the field of noodle making. According to Mr. Koh, one of the factory managers, the factory doesn't just produce noodles. They also provide excellent service. This is the secret ingredient in their recipe for running a successful noodle-making factory. Mr. Koh went on to explain that despite the small market in the Sultanate, the factory currently produces 2,500 kilogrammes of noodles per day. The factory is also capable of increasing production to 3,500 kilogrammes per day. Syarikat Perusahaan Haji Sulaiman Bin Haji Abu Bakar produces Kueh Tiew, Mee Kuning and Kolo Mee and supplies these noodles to restaurants as well as shops in the country. The factory also sells corn flour and wheat flour. The children who visited the factory yesterday were, Noorul Hadini Matsah, Alder Asidi, Azim Ismail, Noorazman Timbang, Farah Saidatul Aneeza, Mas Rina Kamilah Huda Md. Zamri, Nazihah Bujang, Sia Theng Theng, Hafizul Sukri Besar, Azuan Hj Adol, Nurizatul Watihah Amirul Samra, Azim Bakar and Fadillah Karim.
